POTDs: goldfish in chinatown

A friend and I went to Chinatown today for lunch and bubble tea. We saw this new(ish) goldfish fountain and decided to photograph it before it is inevitably defaced. Bellaire (the main drag of Houston's "new" Chinatown) looks surprisingly (and uncharacteristically) nice in these shots.

See, that is just surreal. The polaroid makes it even stranger.

Sharon - I'm sure that by next summer, one of the goldfish will be knocked over. Or tagged. Vandals can't resist a good goldfish fountain. :)

Petrea - Is it strange that I didn't find the fountain all that unusual? I must have seen some strange sights in my life!

It's just a little Disney-esque. Something I'd expect to see in an amusement park, not on a street corner. Maybe it just depends on what kinds of streets we're used to seeing!

These fish are really cool. I'm bummed to hear that they'll be all tatted up with graffiti soon. Good thing you snapped them in their *natural state! :)

Petrea - There is something Disney-ish about them, now that I think about it. Maybe it's the fact that the fountain is made up of three giant colorful goldfish! But Houston's Chinatown has always been a producer of wonderfully gaudy things. :)

Rosemary - *natural is right! :) I'm almost shocked that they haven't been vandalized yet. Maybe I'm too cynical. :)
